Let's see how many people agree with the statement that the ending was horrible and way too abrupt, and if not explain why. (A.J.)

whoever wrote that the ending couldnt come soon enough was overstating it. thank god this book is over. (anna g)
  • I thought that the ending, although abrupt was very appropriate for the novel and its narrarator. Huck was beginning to become a young man and most young men dont have time for that many personal stories, he was starting to grow up and be interested in other things that being part of a gang or robbing sunday school picnics. I say thumbs up! (A.J.)
  • I believe that the ending was fitting yet not very good. It was not horrible or too abrupt, I just wanted Huck to continue on living HIS life and doing what HE wanted to do. But instead of traveling on alone and against society, Huck settles down to be civilized... He finally grows up and learns about life and the future and tries to do his best with things. No more extreme raft racing through thick fog and steamboat-dodging for our Huck. :'( Thumbs down. (Caron)
  • Yea A.J. it seemed that Mark Twain kinda cheated everyone out of a good ending, he must have gotten very bored and wanted to finish the book in like 2 minutes. I was madder than that time i tried changing that lightbulb =p...((AnDrEw))
  • My verdict: the ending fit the rest of the novel. Huck never seemed inclined to elaboration. At least he was consistent in his conciseness. (Emily Brown)
  • I didnt like the ending, Could of given us a little more ot work with((matt)
  • I personally did not like the ending very much because I thought Huck should have confronted Pap on how bad of a father he was and demonstrate how he matured personally with thanks to Jim. I thought it just kind of reiterated what Huck was all along, uncivilized. (Danny Sale)
  • I think Mark Twain just got bored and gave up...he could've made the ending better. So I'm giving it a thumbs downnnn (Cory T.)
  • I agree with Cory. I mean I liked the book and all but l was expecting a very big ending.. so I was some what disappointed (Laura)
  • It was not very suitable for the overall book. It could have definately used a lot more work. Thumbs down. (Emily Barden)
  • I think the end couldn't have come soon enough
  • I think the ending was fitting for the book, a lot of things in Huck Finn started and stopped very abruptly, I do think that he could have made the ending tie more loose ends together and revealed more about the characters. Thumbs Down. (William)
*Definitely a thumbs up. Although Twain did wrap it up very quickly, it suited the coarse of the book. The book, for me, was like a river. At some points it was slow and steady, others it was rapid and unpredictable. But the end left you some room for imagination. I liked how Twain brought Huck back to a similar situation that he started in, although he's better off now with all the knowledge and experience he acquired on his journey. There is no way to know for sure what Huck will do next, but isn't imagining it for ourselves better than being told and facing disappointment? (Amy A.)
